What positive behaviour support looks like in Bankstown

Behaviour support in Bankstown: a father and his young son folding washing together in an Australian home

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is NDIS funded. A practitioner finds why a behaviour happens, then works towards smoother school mornings and calmer evenings.

We work with children, teenagers and adults across Bankstown, at home, at school, at work and in the community.

Families, carers and support workers are part of every step. We coach them so the strategies carry on between our visits.

  • Working towards calmer days at home, school and beyond
  • Practical strategies your family can use in everyday routines
  • Practitioners who travel to you across Bankstown
  • A registered NDIS provider for all ages

How it works

How behaviour support works, step by step

Here is the path from your first call to an ongoing plan across Canterbury-Bankstown.

  1. Referral and first phone call

Refer through your coordinator or our website. We take details by phone and book a first visit.

  2. Functional Behaviour Assessment

We meet the person and those who know them, then find why the behaviour happens.

  3. Strategy development and trial

We shape strategies with your team, then trial them and refine what works.

  4. Behaviour Support Plan

We write a plain-language plan the person's supports can follow.

  5. Implementation and training

We roll the plan out and coach the people around the person.

  6. Review and monitoring

We keep reviewing the plan and update it as needs change.

Practitioners who come to you in Bankstown

Bankstown is a culturally diverse centre 19 kilometres south-west of Sydney's city. We meet you at home, at school, at Paul Keating Park or the Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre.

Why the reason behind a behaviour matters

Every plan opens with a Functional Behaviour Assessment. It shows what the behaviour does for the person, so the plan can meet that need safely.

A plan written for everyday Bankstown life

Those findings become a plain-language Behaviour Support Plan. It sets out proactive strategies, safe responses and training for the people around the person.

Positive Behaviour Support and the Capable Environment Framework

We use the Capable Environment Framework alongside PBS. The framework looks at the setting, like a home near the town centre or a group at the Bankstown Arts Centre.

Working alongside Bankstown schools

Bankstown has primary and high schools, support classes and schools for specific purposes. With your consent, we match classroom strategies to the ones used at home.

How is behaviour support funded?

It usually sits in Capacity Building, under Improved Relationships. Your coordinator can confirm what your plan includes, and we charge in line with NDIS pricing arrangements.
