FAQs
Frequently asked questions about NDIS behaviour support
Here are plain answers to the NDIS behaviour support questions families and Support Coordinators ask us most.
Understanding behaviour support
Do you only work with behaviours of concern?
No. We also help people build everyday skills, such as emotional regulation, communication, social skills and independence. Skill building runs through every service. It gives each person more ways to cope, connect and do things for themselves.
What areas of mental health do you support?
We support people with autism, ADHD, intellectual disability, acquired brain injury, schizophrenia, personality disorders, anxiety, depression and complex trauma. Our work is NDIS behaviour support, so we do not diagnose or run counselling. Your GP can help with those.
What is behaviour support?
Behaviour support finds out why a behaviour of concern happens and builds positive ways to help. It is also called positive behaviour support or behaviour therapy. It usually includes a Functional Behaviour Assessment, a Behaviour Support Plan and training.
Who we support and where we work
Are you NDIS registered?
Yes. My Behaviour Support Pty Ltd is registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission for Behaviour Support and Therapeutic Supports. We follow the NDIS Code of Conduct and Practice Standards. We work with NDIA-managed, plan-managed and self-managed participants.
Do you work with clients of all ages?
Yes. We work with children, teenagers, adults and older people. We visit family homes, schools, workplaces, Supported Independent Living (SIL) homes and senior living facilities. Each plan is built around the person's age, day and the people who help them.
Where are you based and what areas do you service?
We cover South West and Western Sydney, including Campbelltown, Liverpool, Fairfield, Bankstown, Parramatta, Blacktown and Penrith. We come to you at home, school, work or in the community. If you live further out, call us to check.
Who can access your behaviour support services?
Our services are for NDIS participants of any age. Funding usually comes from Improved Relationships in the Capacity Building budget. Carers and support workers can join training too. Your Support Coordinator or LAC can check your plan's funding.
Our services, assessments and reporting
Do you offer training for support staff?
Yes. Family & Carer Training is one of our 4 services. We coach families, carers, teachers and support workers to use the Behaviour Support Plan. Training runs face to face or online, as workshops or hands-on coaching.
Do you provide reports for the NDIS?
Yes. We write Functional Behaviour Assessment reports, Interim Behaviour Support Plans and Comprehensive Behaviour Support Plans, in line with NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission requirements. Ask us if your plan review needs something specific.
How do you work with families and providers?
We work with everyone in the person's circle of support, including families, carers, schools, support workers and providers. We share training and resources so the strategies stay practical. Visits happen at home, at school or in the community.
How often are your behaviour support sessions held?
Most participants have a session every fortnight. The frequency depends on each person's needs and their NDIS plan funding. We add training or team meetings when needed, and review the schedule as needs change.
What are your goals as a behaviour support provider?
We aim to reduce restrictive practices, which should only ever be a last resort. We also build each person's independence, grow the skills of families and support staff, and support wellbeing and community inclusion.
What assessments do you use?
We mainly use the Functional Behaviour Assessment (FBA), an evidence-based tool that looks at why a behaviour happens. Your practitioner may add the QABF, a Quality of Life assessment, the Overt Behaviour Scale or structured observations to suit the person.
