Sian is a Behaviour Support Practitioner with a background in nursing in Supported Independent Living (SIL) homes across Western Sydney. She works with children, adolescents and adults at home, at school and in the community.
A nursing background and a whole-person approach
Sian has worked in behaviour support for a number of years. Her nursing experience shapes her whole-person approach, and she considers both health and behavioural needs when supporting someone. She is passionate about advocating for the people she works with and making sure their voice is heard.
Her goal is to help each person feel understood and supported, and to build independence in a way that suits them. She focuses on practical, realistic strategies that can be used day to day to make things easier and more positive for the participant and their family.
Getting to know the person and their supports
Building a good working relationship is important to Sian. She takes the time to get to know each person properly, including what they enjoy, what works well for them and what they might find tricky, then works with them to find the right ways to support them.
Each setting brings its own challenges, so Sian works closely with families, support staff and other professionals to make sure everyone feels confident and supported in what is put in place. Her aim is to make a positive difference and help the people she supports feel happy, safe and confident in their everyday lives.
